History
In the early 2000s many Portuguese Americans had a renewed interest in riding motorcycles in Lowell and the surrounding Portuguese communities. Many riders gathered at places like the Blues Club, Reds Club, and the 4 Seasons Restaurant in Lowell MA to ride. This is where the idea to start a bike group was born.
The Portuguese American Road Riders (PARR) was founded in June 2006. The founder was Tony DaSilva and the Co-founder was Walter Borges. The bike group members are made up of either Portuguese Americans or Americans of Portuguese decent. It was started for all types of motorcycle enthusiasts that love to ride, have fun, socialize, be with friends and make new ones. PARR is an exclusive motorcycle riding group. Our goal is to maintain a closeness of brotherhood, loyalty, law abiding and supporting one another and to support the Portuguese American community. The bike group seeks members that share our passion for our heritage and love for riding.
We are a law enforcement Friendly Motorcycle Road Riders Group.
The motto of PARR is to help the Portuguese American community. The bike group organizes an annual benefit ride to assist an individual with chronic illness or combative illness. Every year we are looking for someone from the community with a need, preferably a child to participate in our annual benefit ride. We are always looking for the communities' support.
Our members are also members and supporters of the Holy Ghost Society of Lowell ma.,Portuguese American Center Lowell Ma. (PAC), and the Portuguese American Civic League lowell Ma.(PCL)
The Portuguese American Road Riders owe many thanks to the Holy Ghost Society of lowell ma.,Portuguese American Center Lowell Ma. , and the Portuguese American Civic League lowell Ma. for their many years of continued support.
The vision of the bike groups patch was the concept of Tony DaSilva. The Portuguese and American flags are displayed in yin yang style showing the balance of both cultures. PARR would like to give a special thanks to Steve Mendonca for the creation of our web site and assisting with the design of our bike group's patch and his continued support. We would also like to thank Joel Espinola of "Joel's Printing Design" for contributing his time and printing all our benefit run t-shirts.
